about

In 1994 our family visited the northern seaside resort of Morecambe and something that made an impression on me was the Art Deco Midland Hotel on the foreshore. Why a building should inspire anything as diverse as a piece of music I don't really know, however I wrote the basic melody of this music back then and even though it was only in my head ( I do this often - nothing gets written down!) I have been able to remember enough of it to make this arrangement.
It has an industrial feel to it as the Midland was originally a railway hotel built by the London, Midland and Scottish Railway in 1933 to the designs of architect Oliver Hill. And its location next to the Stone Jetty was where Morecambe's Station and goods yard were.
